Child Support |

Child support is determined by a statewide formula created by the Minnesota Legislature. The formula takes into account a number of factors, including: the earnings of each parent, any special needs of the child, child care costs necessary for a parent to work, and the amount of time each parent has the child in their care. Typically, child support is ordered during a child custody proceeding or in a case brought by the county social services office. If, once the custody proceeding has been completed, factors relevant to the formula (i.e. your income) change, you may be able to modify your child support order.
