A power of attorney allows you to appoint someone to help you with some of the major decisions in your life should you need the help.  It is commonly used to appoint someone of your choosing to help you with your finances, particularly as you get older.  It is also common for people to use this document to appoint someone to care for their children while they are gone on an extended vacation or going overseas.  If something should happen on the trip or decisions need to be made about your children while you are gone, this document will do that.
