Health Care Directive/Living Will |

Minnesota law allows an individual to make some of their own decisions concerning future health care through a Health Care Directive (previously known as a “living will”). You can appoint someone to act on your behalf if you are unable to do so because of a medical condition. This law allows you to put in writing where you would like to be treated, which doctor should treat you, and your views on how hard doctors should try to save you in extreme situations. You can make known your desires on tube feeding, being kept alive by machines, etc. This is a document everyone should have. It gives your doctor needed directions and gives your family your directions to follow. It takes a great burden away from them and gives you some security knowing that your final wishes will be carried out.
